Intro
One of my recent clients approached me with the requirement I integrate with their current payment processor, Atlantic Merchant. They claimed they had excellent developer documentation, but that could not have been farther from the truth. The agent told my client it’s easy and free, but that would only apply if they were a European-based company. For those of us in the states, our only option is paid.
For those wondering how the heck to integrate with Atlantic Merchant, look no further!
WooCommerce is a very powerful system, one of its many features is its wide range of plugins. In today’s tutorial I will be going over one of the many gateway plugins.
Prerequisites
WordPress
WooCommerce (Free)
Elavon Converge Payment Gateway (Paid)
Steps
Step 1) Purchase, install, and Plugin
Step 2) Grab Coffee, a stress ball, maybe a tv remote, and pray you don’t have to wait hours on hold. You need your customers Account details in this step.
You need the Account ID, User ID, and PIN.
I’d like to note, my customer’s ID did NOT authenticate, I had to call back and wait HOURS to be told I needed an Alpha-Numeric PIN.
Step 3) Plug in the Account ID, User ID, and PIN, and make sure the Environment dropdown matches what the account is set to, because my client’s account was set to be live, I made sure the plugin was set to “Production”.
Step 4) Go through your websites checkout process, and use your given test card, or if in production mode, type enough numbers to satisfy the box. If the processor is set up correctly, it will say invalid card id, if it is NOT setup correctly it will give you a corresponding error and you will have to contact Converge…
Final Thoughts
This was a quick and easy tutorial, I only made it because I could not find the information elsewhere. I just saw a paid plugin on WooCommerce and rolled the dice with my Credit Card. As it worked for me, I am happy to endorse the plugin to my fellow WooCommerce friends!
Disclaimer
Typically I use Stripe for ALL my clients, it’s easy, it’s free, and its rates really are not that high.
I would not recommend using a different processor unless your client is stubborn, or does enough sales to make the switch worthwhile. The salesman I dealt with called Stripe Proprietary.. The all in one solution that spends their own money to develop FREE plugins for every eCommerce platform.
So why would you use Atlantic Merchant over Stripe? Money. While it has HIGH monthly charges, hidden fees, and lackluster support.. if your client is processing MILLIONS of dollars, this could potentially save them thousands of dollars, just make sure someone does the math, my client is overpaying hundreds of dollars a month by not using stripe.
